Brief Biographical Sketch:

Allison Hung has been interested in science since she was in the womb. Her free time is spent oil painting and catching up on the latest Harry Potter fanfiction. Her favorite meme is, as she says, "that one with the dog."

Past Classes

(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)

S883: Protein Biochemistry in Splash Fall 2019 (Oct. 27, 2019)
Organisms use proteins to accomplish nearly everything. This course will first go over protein structure and function. This will include protein related disorders and their subsequent treatments. Finally, we will learn traditional and modern techniques in protein research.

S884: Microbiology: Crazy Things Cells Do in Splash Fall 2019 (Oct. 27, 2019)
Microbes are organisms that live on a microscopic level. This class will review the fundamental concepts of microbiology and look at how cells do the crazy things they do to thrive. Then, we will learn about how we use microbes as tools for medicine and for insights into general cellular mechanisms.

S766: Microbiology: Crazy Things Cells Do in Splash Fall 2018 (Oct. 28, 2018)
Microbes are organisms that live on a microscopic level. They live EVERYWHERE, and affect the world as we know it. This class will review the fundamental concepts of microbiology and look at how cells do the crazy things they do to thrive. Then we will explore current areas of research - astrobiology, cell engineering, host-pathogen interactions, and more!

S612: The Gut Microbiome in Splash Spring 18 (Mar. 31, 2018)
Students will be introduced to recent discoveries on the impact of the gut microbiome on human metabolism. We will go over basic techniques to assess the microbiome, and explore current efforts in scientific research to take advantage of this emerging area. This will include synthetic biology, cell biology, and bio-engineering.

S615: Protein Biochemistry in Splash Spring 18 (Mar. 31, 2018)
Organisms use proteins to accomplish nearly everything. This course will first go over protein structure and function. This will include protein related disorders and their subsequent treatments. Finally, we will learn traditional and modern techniques in protein research.

S538: Protein Structure, Immunology, and Drug Design in Splash Fall 2017 (Nov. 04, 2017)
Students will be introduced to the chemical basis of biological processes, with a focus on protein structure and function. Finally, students will learn how protein structures can be used to design novel therapeutic compounds in the fields of pharmacology and synthetic biology.

H539: Introductory Chinese with Calligraphy in Splash Fall 2017 (Nov. 04, 2017)
Students will be introduced to the basics of Chinese pronunciation including tones and pinyin. The students will also learn commonly used phrases and basic grammar structure. We will use calligraphy as an aid to introduce character writing.

H497: Introductory Chinese with Calligraphy in Splash Spring 2017 (Mar. 25, 2017)
Students will be introduced to the basics of Chinese pronunciation including tones and pinyin. The students will also learn commonly used phrases and basic grammar structure. We will use calligraphy as an aid to introduce character writing.
