Brief Biographical Sketch:

Amrita is a sophomore at Columbia. She began her violin studies at age 6. Before Columbia, she attended the Meadowmout School of Music and the Hartt School Precollegiate Division. At Columbia she is a member of the Bach Society, specializing in Baroque music, and the Music Performance Program. She learned Koto in a Gagaku ensemble her first semester here, which is part of what inspired her to teach this class!

A364: Chamber Music: East and West in Splash Spring 2016 (Mar. 12, 2016)
Japanese Traditional Court Music (Gagaku) and Baroque Chamber Music will be covered. We will look at the history and practices of each type of performance, and compare and contrast musical elements as well as the ways in which they related to their respective societies. Lots of beautiful excerpts to listen to and discuss!
